《九章算术》由谁而著,没有确切的记载。据注序言, “ 、大司农中丞皆以善算命世。苍等因旧文遗残,各称删补。 ” 现 在流行的《九章算术》是三世纪三国时期的做注的版本。《九章算术》内容十分丰富,系统总结了战国、、汉时期的数学成就。《九章算术》在世界 上最早 系统叙述了分数四则运算法则,正负数的加减运算法则,给出了生产实际中用到的谷物等按比例交换,各类几何图形几何量的计算等等。它是当时世界上最简练有效的应用数学,它的出现标志中国 古代数学 框架的形成。《九章算术》由九部分组成:卷一 “ ” 、卷二 “ 粟米 ” 、卷三 “ 衰分 ” 、卷四 “ ” 、卷五 “ ” 、卷六 “ 均输 ” 、卷七 “ 盈不足 ” 、卷八 “ 方程 ” 、卷九 “ 勾股 ” ,共有 246 个问题,每一个问题问题、答案、解法构成。所列问题看似是具体问题,其解法具有通用性。
