The unemployment rate of the youth is set to rise even further this autumn, a survey of the UK ’ s biggest companies suggests. Two thirds of those surveyed said the job market would get 1 ‍ for young workers. Twenty-seven of the 50 largest 2 in the UK completed a survey about the economy and job market. Asked what policy would best 3 youth unemployment, almost half said the government needed to do more to train young job seekers. Most said many young people were leaving school or college without the basic 4 they needed to find work, like math and English. The latest official 5 show that almost a million 16-to-24-year-olds are now looking for work. One large, international firm said young 6 lacked “ basic presentation and communication skills as well as simple budgeting ” . Another said, “ Young people have 7 expectations of the work that they will be doing and this is made worse by the lack of skills coming out of school. ” But more than half of the firms which completed the survey said the education system was not 8 preparing young workers for a job at their organization. When asked to name the biggest single 9 to hiring more young people, the most common answer was the lack of basic skills followed by 10 .
