A boycott is an expression of protest consisting of an organized refusal by a group of people to deal with another person or group. An illustration is the famous boycott that began in 1955 when Mrs. Rosa Parks of Montgomery, Alabama, refused to obey a local ordinance requiring black people to sit at the back of city buses: Mrs. Parks was arrested, which resulted in a boycott of the Montgomery bus system by blacks.
