character; English literature; fiction; literary; novel; plot; public library; take out; thriller Having been an enthusiastic reader from an early age, it was an obvious choice for me to study (1)________ at university. We had an enormous amount of reading to do but I found it very pleasurable. Now that I have left university, I continue to read a great deal, but rather than buy books, which can be an expensive habit, I use my local (2)________. I (3)________ at least five books a month and almost always manage to get through them all. I usually go to the library with the intention of borrowing some good (4)________ but don't always have particular books in mind. I much prefer literary (5)________ to popular fictions but I do enjoy a good crime novel or (6)________. The problem with popular fictions is that although the (7)________ is usually exciting, so that you want to find out what happens next, the style tends to be uninteresting. Furthermore, the (8)________ often don't seem real and don't develop in any way as the story progresses. This isn't always true of course. From time to time, there are popular books that have real (9)________ merit. If that's the case, you can be sure I'll read them.
